2006 Contest
And the Winner is.....
Sandra Henderson of Greensburg!

Sandra's dilemma was that she thought her kitchen was too small for all the activities - such as cooking, eating, bill paying, and entertaining that they did in there. She felt the storage was inadequate and was very frustrated. With a new baby on the way - their growing family needed some fast solutions.
WMCPO went in and hit the Kitchen and the adjacent hallway closets. Sorting items and grouping like items together Sandra came to realize she had 5 bags of flour ! The "pantry ", and hallway closets were the only "extra" storage they had and things had gotten lost in there. We enlisted Sandra's very handy husband, Sean to build shelves in the "pantry" closet. Utilizing the vertical space we created more storage for an "office" housing all the papers and desk items Sandra used on a daily basis.

We created workstations in their kitchen to help food prep and clean up easier. By creating a better floor plan by moving the refrigerator to the opposite wall - it gave Sean an extra surface to work on while he cooks, while working together in the kitchen, their levels of stress diminished.
By using the methods of organization and purging items they didn't use or just needed moved to another part of the house that were more functional - Sandra and her husband found that motivation they needed.
They were truly amazed what we could do for them, while teaching them concepts they weren't aware of, to make their solutions work for them.

We sorted and tossed and grouped like items together - taking advantage of the vertical space we created more room to store pots and pans
Cleaning off the counters of everyday items that get "dumped" as they come through the door , Sandra can walk into a much calmer kitchen

After combining all the "like " food items together - we moved the storage containers to the cupboard in the "clean up" workstation, between the sink and the refrigerator .

Linen closet

Before After
Moving items that didnt belong in the linen closet out and straightening up the shelves - what a difference a half an hour made.
In a little over ten hours we also gave them a redesigned nursery and cozier living room to maximize their space and create better traffic patterns.
